Sometimes when people pray, they expect the power of God to come down from heaven and change their situation. However, the truth is that the day you received the Holy Spirit, you received the power of God into your spirit, and that power is capable of changing anything.

In the Old Testament, only the priest, the king, and the prophet had the anointing of the Spirit resting upon them. However, before Israel had kings, they had judges such as Deborah, Gideon, and Samson, on whom the Spirit came. The Bible shows us the unique way Samson activated the anointing of God upon his life when the Philistines came to attack him. He said "...I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself..."(Judges 16:20). This reveals that going out and shaking himself was something he did to activate the anointing. Note that the Spirit was upon him but now we have the Spirit in us and we activate the power by speaking in tongues.

TONGUES: THE SWITCH THAT IGNITES THE DIVINE POWER
1 Corinthians 14:4 says, "He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself..." To edify mean to build, embolden, or charge up. Therefore, the one who speaks in tongues charges himself up, stirring up the power of God that is within him. When you activate the power of God in you this way, the glory of God will be revealed in your life. If you were weak in your body, the power would rise within you and you would be strengthened. The power of the Spirit working in you helps you overcome doubts and fears, and energizes your physical body.

Jude 1:20 says, "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost." When you pray in the Holy Spirit, you build up yourself on your most holy faith; that is the highest level of faith you attain by inspiration of the Spirit through the Word. It is your most sanctified faith, thoroughly devoid of fear and doubt. However, some people don't always operate according to their most holy faith. So, the Bible tells us that through praying in the Holy Ghost, we build ourselves up to function at the highest level of faith we've ever attained. And you'll function at this height until the Word of God takes you to a higher level of faith. Thus, by continually praying in the Holy Ghost, you'll always function at your highest level of faith.

This is why you must receive the Holy Spirit. After you're again, receiving the Holy Spirit is the next most important thing in your life. You can't live a successful Christian life without the Holy Spirit. If you’ve already received the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues is a spiritual necessity. It’s not something you do once and forget about until a situation arises.

Have specific times every day when you spend quality time speaking in tongues. You can't do this long enough without the power of God rising in your spirit and energizing your faith to serve the Lord better. The Bible says, "Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered..." (Psalm 68:1). Let His power arise - let it be stirred up in you - and the works of Satan, the adversary, will be scattered. Hallelujah!
