THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PRAYER
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” — Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV)
Prayer covers not only the communication, and the content of the prayer but it also covers our meditation during the times of prayer. It is a divine invitation to commune with God, unlocking His wisdom, power, and guidance. It is not just a religious exercise but a dynamic partnership that brings transformation. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has often emphasized the vital role of prayer in shaping destinies and manifesting God’s will. But what makes prayer truly effective?
THE POWER OF FAITH-FILLED PRAYER
Pastor Chris said, “Prayer is God’s idea, not men. God requires us to pray because He intends to answer.” This highlights that prayer is a divine strategy, not merely a human practice. At the heart of effective prayer lies faith. Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) reminds us, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God,”. When we approach God with unwavering trust, we activate divine principles that yield results beyond natural comprehension. Prayer aligned with faith ignites God’s power, transforming impossible situations into testimonies of His greatness.
PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT: A HIGHER DIMENSION
One of the most profound teachings by Pastor Chris on prayer is the importance of praying in the Spirit. He states, “When you pray in the Spirit, you are speaking mysteries to God, bypassing the limitations of your mind and speaking directly from your spirit.” This aligns with 1 Corinthians 14:2(NIV), which says, “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”
Praying in the Spirit allows believers to pray beyond human understanding, addressing things unknown to the natural mind. It builds the spirit, strengthens faith, and aligns the believer with God’s perfect will. Jude 1:20(NIV) reinforces this, urging believers to “build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.”
PERSISTENCE IN PRAYER
Jesus taught persistence in prayer, as seen in Luke 18:1-8, and Pastor Chris echoes this by saying, “Prayer is a continuous engagement with God. Stay in the place of prayer until you see the change.” This persistent approach ensures that we remain aligned with God’s timing and purpose; confident that every sincere prayer is heard and will be answered.
